Just released July 24th, 2010:  Hollywood in the 1960s was filled with some of the greatest names in TV, movies and music. The city was filled with people like Frank Sinatra, Mel Brooks, Florence Henderson, Marlo Thomas and more. But what were these talents really like to the people working around them?

Ever since I can remember, my Poppy, who you will soon be introduced to as Lester, was a story teller. Well, I guess that's what Grandfathers do - prop their grandchildren on their laps and tell them tales of the unknown. At a young age I sought out to be a performer and all of his show biz stories were what I had him tell over and over again. If it werent for him I wouldnt be living my dream today as a professional actress...
And if you don't like it then I'm going to go out on a limb and say that youre a nincumpoop, just as my Pops would say it.

Elizabeth Hendrickson, The Young and the Restless and All My Children (2002-2007) - from the foreword to the book.

Emmy Award-winner Lester Colodny lived for two decades among these people. He was a scriptwriter, worked at the William Morris Agency, was a producer and sold scripts to shows and actors to producers. Colodny wrote for, and worked on, such shows as Get Smart, My Favorite Martian, Love, American Style, Beetle Bailey and more. He co-wrote Fun City with Joan Rivers. He knew these people at a professional and personal level, and he was backstage to see what really went on.

I've been a pal of Lester's since just prior to the invention of the wheel, so I can bear eyewitness testimony as to the veracity of many of the events he recounts in his book. And what a joy it has been to relive them through his hilarious pages! But,there's great depth here, as well. Since the very inception of show business both laughter and tragedy, side by side, have been its symbol. And under the surface of every side-splitting tale Lester tells is that ever present poignant layer of sadness. It's a hell of a read! And when Hollywood makes a movie of this book, I suggest they cast Lester Colodny as his own worst enemy!
Marty Brill, The New Dick Van Dyke Show, All in the Family, Three's Company

Now, he is telling his rich story in an exciting, laugh-a-minute book due out July 24th from SciArt Media. Although, like any life story, there are fictionalized parts and some names were changed, this is a delightful romp through stardom.

What fun! A Funny Thing Happened delivers laughs in every chapter and smiles to spare. Thank you, Lester, for preserving these hilarious stories. My only disappointment was when there was no more to read!
Josh Judge, author, Weather Facts and Fun, Extreme New England Weather

Filled with anecdotes of the rich and famous, you will read about Florence Henderson on The Today Show, long before becoming Carol Brady. You’ll hear a story of why it is important to make sure you are dialing the right number, especially when dealing with Mel Brooks, and lots more. He has done his best to recall the stories, and fills in the empty spaces with color, excitement and the feel of the times.

Any page that elicits laughter makes the book a comic treasure. While this review cannot expose every page of Lester Colodny’s A Funny Thing Happened…it can assay a few, enough to justify pointing out this book as precious.
Richard Goldhurst, author, Many are the Hearts: The Agony and the Triumph of Ulysses S. Grant. Reader’s Digest Press.

Filled with visual imagery and written in a fun, conversational tone, this book will have you laughing throughout. The book tells some of the funniest stories you will ever read, including Mel Brooks wild antics long before he was famous (picture him squated on a table full of stuff, imitating a fly calling out to his comrades. Funny, right?). What about Jerry Lewis, pulling Lester over on the street or going out on a blind date and finding out it is with Lana Turner?

What's more fun than a barrel full of monkeys? Read Lester Colodny's A Funny Thing Happened, and you'll start finding out from the very first chapter. Along the way, you'll get to know some of the brightest stars in the comedy heavens, including the author himself.
Richard Lederer, former NPR host and author of Anguished English

This is a perfect book for those people who love Hollywood, classic television, or just those who enjoy humorous stories from people who lived a life many of us would only be able to dream about. The book also contains dozens of photographs of Lester and the people her worked with throughout the years, including very rare photographs of Frank Sinatra and Dolly Parton as well as four previously unreleased photos of The Beatles!

...The monkeys, incidentally, involved the completely unprepared cast of NBC’s The Today Show, with a clownish Dave Garroway, and his terrorized compatriots: Frank Blair, Jack Lescoulie, and a very young, beautiful, and horror-stricken Florence Henderson. Mr. Colodny was the show’s writer and associate producer at the time. You need to read the book just for this story alone...
